LOS ANGELES, CA (Sunday Night Rugby)—The Seattle Seawolves delivered a detailed attacking performance on the road Sunday evening at Wallis Annenberg Stadium, scoring four tries and earning a bonus point in a 38–29 result against the California Legion.
Both sides entered the match looking to respond, and the opening exchanges reflected that urgency. California built early possession through Gonzalo Bertranou and Coby Miln, moving the ball quickly across the pitch. Seattle’s defensive structure held firm. Tackles from Patrick Ryan, Nolan Tuamoheloa, Ezekiel Lindenmuth, and Dewald Kotze limited momentum and forced play back inside.
Seattle capitalized on its first major opportunity. At 14 minutes, Davy Coetzer stepped into the passing lane, intercepted cleanly, and finished under the posts. He converted his own try to give Seattle a 7–0 lead.
Seattle continued to apply pressure through controlled phase play. Riekert Hattingh and Marno Redelinghuys established momentum at the breakdown, while André Warner dictated tempo at scrumhalf. At 19 minutes, Calvin Liulamaga finished in the corner after a sustained multi-phase sequence, extending the lead to 12–0.
California responded at 26 minutes through Oscar Treacy, who finished out wide after quick distribution. Coby Miln converted to reduce the deficit to 12–7. Seattle answered through discipline. At 29 minutes, Davy Coetzer added a penalty to extend the lead to 15–7.
The Legion continued to build pressure through forward carries from Ben Houston, Jason Damm, and Lance Williams. At 36 minutes, Tas Smith finished a sustained attacking sequence. Miln converted to bring the score to 15–14 heading into halftime.
California carried that momentum into the second half. At 45 minutes, Ben Houston crossed after a multi-phase sequence built through forward pressure and quick ruck speed. Miln’s conversion gave California a 21–15 lead.
Seattle responded immediately. At 51 minutes, Davy Coetzer broke through contact, beating multiple defenders before scoring his second try. He converted to restore Seattle’s lead at 22–21.
The match then shifted into a physical and tactical contest. Territory was traded through kicking from Davy Coetzer and Coby Miln. Breakdown pressure intensified, with Tiai Vavao making an immediate impact off the bench, disrupting possession and slowing California’s attack.

California regained control late. At 69 minutes, Gonzalo Bertranou finished a break to give the Legion a 28–22 lead following Miln’s conversion. At 73 minutes, Joe Mano finished out wide after a wide attacking sequence involving Billy Meakes and Cassh Maluia. Miln converted to extend the lead to 35–22.
Seattle responded with urgency. At 76 minutes, Liki Chan-Tung powered over from close range for his first Major League Rugby try. Davy Coetzer converted to bring the score to 35–29 and secure Seattle’s fourth try of the match, earning a bonus point.
In the closing minutes, California controlled field position and added a penalty through Coby Miln at 79 minutes to close the match at 38–29.
Seattle’s attacking output was led by Davy Coetzer, who contributed 17 points through two tries, three conversions, and one penalty. Calvin Liulamaga added a first-half try, while Liki Chan-Tung delivered impact off the bench with a late score to secure the bonus point.
